Howard Smith, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Walker & Dunlop, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Multifamily Finance, FHA Finance, Healthcare Finance and Underwriting groups. Mr. Smith joined Walker & Dunlop, in 1980 and has been a member of the management team since 1988. As a member of the founding team of Green Park Financial and the Fannie Mae DUS program, Mr. Smith has been responsible for over $9 billion dollars in DUS originations and refinances. Mr. Smith is a former income property committee chairman and member of the board of governors with the Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington. Mr. Smith currently is a board member of the Commercial Real Estate / Multifamily Finance Board of Governors of MBA (COMBOG), serves on the NMHC board of directors, and is chairman of the Fannie Mae DUS Peer Group. Mr. Smith previously served as chairman of the Fannie Mae DUS Peer Group in 2007. Mr. Smith graduated from Washington & Lee University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
